10 Simple Ways To Boost Your Energy

1. Don't Work Too Much

Prioritise the demands on your time, work out what is important and urgent. Give yourself permission to put some of the non-important items on hold until you have more time and energy. Make sure you place a high priority on personal leisure activities.

2. Get enough sleep

Sleep is the body's method of replenishing energy. You will only be at your most industrious when you have a solid night of sleep under your belt. Make sure you are sleeping in the dark, going to bed at the same time every night and your bedroom is conducive to sleep.

3. Eat energy boosting foods

Eating wholesome foods with a healthy mix of fats and protein is essential for energy and productivity. Go for high-protein meals and snacks that will give you energy that will sustain you for longer. Limit sugar and caffeine intake as they might give you instant energy, but a few hours later they will actually only make you more tired.

Even if you have a well balanced diet it can be difficult to get all the key vitamins and minerals your body needs. Taking supplements can help support your system and cover any deficiencies.

4. Make sure you're not exercising too little or too much

Exercise helps generate more energy, increases your metabolism, burns fuel more efficiently and raises your endorphins. However, if you exercise too much or too hard it can negatively affect your energy. Try gentle forms such as Pilates, Tai Chi, yoga, lifting weights, or walking. Exercise should leave you refreshed, not wiped out. You should include exercise into your routine at least three times a week.

5. Eliminate Medical Causes

There are many medical conditions that can cause low energy such as low thyroid function, low or high iron, food allergies or intolerances. Talk to your doctor to rule out any medical cause for your lack of energy.

6. Get out the house

As tempting as it is to sit inside and watch TV, it is much better for you to get active and go do something to get your body moving. Inactivity actually makes you more tired. Being physically active helps generate more energy, increases your metabolism, burns fuel more efficiently and raises your feel good chemicals in your brain.

7. Listen to your body

Our bodies are amazing instruments and often they know what's best for us. Listen to what your body is saying to you, do you need to slow down and rest? Take more time out for you?

8. Awaken your senses

Activate your senses and feel your body relax and re-energize itself. Something as simple as listening to your favourite CD, burning a scented candle or treating yourself to a massage can give you an instant energy and 'feel good' boost.

9. Give yourself tech-free time

If your life is centered around the telephone, email or mobile give yourself an hour a day where you turn of all the phones, Don't answer the emails and concentrate on doing whatever is most important.

10. Take 5 minutes a day to breathe

Take a few minutes every day to do nothing! Just clear your mind and enjoy the peace. You'll come out of it feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready to go!
