Paper Work To Help You Be Prepared

If you are going through separation or divorce, your lawyer will require a list of all your assets and liabilities. To help save you time and money be prepared with all the information you will need.

1. Real Estate

List all real estate you own together or either of you brought into the relationship. Provide the following information about each property:
  • When the real estate was purchased
  • Purchase price
  • Deposit amount
  • Where the deposit came from
  • What the monthly payments are if there is an outstanding loan
  • Any currant mortgage balances
  • The market valuation from at least 2 independent real estate agents
2. Vehicles

Vehicles include automobiles you drive regularly plus motorcycles and recreational vehicles such as boats. You will need the following information about each vehicle:
  • Year
  • Make
  • Model
  • License number
  • Fair Market Value
  • Balanced Owed
3. Household items

You will need to make a list of all household items such as electronics, furnishings, art work, tools and sporting equipment. Include the following information about each item:
  • Purchase price - include sales receipt if available
  • Estimated current market value
  • Whether the item was purchased or a gift
4. Bank Accounts

  • Name and address of bank
  • Type of Account
  • Account number
  • Current balance
  • Names on the account
  • Date the account was opened
5. Superannuation

You will need the following information for both you and your former partner's superannuation plans.
  • Name of the plan
  • Contribution made to the plan
  • Any co-contributions made to the plan
  • Lump sum collectible now
  • Monthly payments collectible now
  • Date monthly payments become available
6. Business

  • Date business was acquired
  • Name of the business
  • Date business started
  • Whether or not the business is incorporated
  • Total number of shares owned if it is a public business
  • Number of shares in your name
  • Number of shares in your spouses? name
  • Number of employees
  • Net worth of business
  • Profit or loss business made last tax year
  • Profit or loss made last tax quarter
  • Location of business books
7. Any other investments

If you or your former partner has any shares, debentures or other investments you will need to provide the following details for each item.
  • Name
  • Number
  • Purchase price
  • Face value
  • Market value
  • Current Total
8. Creditors

List all creditors and the following information about each debt.
  • Name of creditor
  • Amount owed to creditor
  • Amount paid monthly
  • Who incurred the debt
