You don't have to meditate in front of an idol or in silence for an hour to experience the benefits of mindfulness! Here are few suggestions that can help with stress relief:
Body scan
Body scanning cultivates mindfulness by focusing your attention on various parts of your body. Start with your feet and work your way up your body. Focus your attention on the way each part of your body feels. Avoid labelling the sensations as either 'good' or 'bad', just take note and move on.
Connect to the earth
One of the simplest things you can do is simply step outside. Take your shoes off and feel the ground under your feet, allow yourself to feel the energy of the earth. Breathe - deeply and slowly. Allow yourself to appreciate the sun on your skin, wind against your face and the sounds all around you.
Walk amongst nature
Walking can be extremely meditative. Focus on each step you take and the sensation of your foot on the ground. Observe your breathing - is it quick or steady, how does your body feel is it light or heavy.
Immerse yourself in music
Music has amazing healing properties. It can help to lift your spirits and help clear your mind. If you're lucky enough to have musical talents, play your instrument, sing, compose and be fully present in the moment. Add more music to your day, let the music move through your body and pay attention to how different songs make you feel.
